Abstract

The validation of the improved cultivars EAP-

9510-77 and SRC-1-12-1 (of meso-american origin),

comparing them to the local control Rojo Chiricano (MD-

3075) on 500 m2 plots in five localities of the province of

Chiriqui, Panama¸ during the period from October 2001and

February 2002. The average yield of the variety EAP-9510-

77 was 2518 kg/ha, over-yielding the SRC-1-12-1 and the

control by 12%. The farmers preferred the line EAP-9510-77

for its yield, growth habit and grain color. Its varietal

description, inscription at the CNS (National Seed
