Resumen
Se presenta una contextualización del papel que ha cumplido a nivel general la semiótica junto a la arqueología. A la vez, esta se utiliza para el planteamiento de un modelo de interacción cultural en Costa Rica durante el Período Formativo (2.000-300 a.C.), formando parte esta de la Región Istmo Colombiana. El modelo planteado presenta también algunos elementos que deben ser retomados por aquellos que conciben la Región Istmo Colombiana como una unidad cultural en sí misma.
