ESCENA. Revista de las artes: Announcements
https://revistas.ucr.ac.cr/index.php/escena

ESCENA. Revista de las artes is an international biannual publication edited by the Instituto de Investigaciones en Arte (IIArte) of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Costa Rica. Its main purpose is to publish and disseminate the results of academic research in the field of the arts in general, as well as related unpublished documents, in order to generate and promote knowledge in this specific area. It is aimed at researchers, professors, artists, art lovers and the general public.

The journal also publishes personal testimonies of creative people, artistic productions such as visual art works, scores, literary texts, among others. It is important to clarify that literary researches are published, in case they have a comparative approach with other arts. This is due to the fact that our institution has other academic publications focused exclusively on the area of Literature: Revista de Filología y Lingüística de la Universidad de Costa Rica and Káñina, Revista de Artes y Letras.

URL OAI-PMH: https://revistas.ucr.ac.cr/index.php/escena/oai
es-ESOpen Call for Papers I-2025

We are pleased to begin this new year with the publication of issue 84(2). On this occasion, we include papers, academic reflections and artistic works. Among the main themes, they address the role of the State in artistic productions and creations, the appropriation of urban spaces through art, inquiries into the origins of Latin American musical instruments and coins, and the effects of dance on physical and mental health, as well as its relationship with dramaturgy.

We close the issue with a reflection on the reinvindication of women's writing in the Academy and the need to rethink the notion of 'canon', followed by three artistic works that problematize, from different perspectives, the female figure in contemporary societies.

You are cordially invited to read and share our new issue. We thank the Vicerrectoría de Investigación and the Sistema de Estudios de Posgrado (SEP) of the University of Costa Rica for their support in the editing of this issue.

Link: <a href="We%20are pleased to begin this new year with the publication of issue 84(2).
We are pleased to begin this new year with the publication of issue 83(2). On this occasion, we include articles, academic reflections, artworks and an interview. Among the main themes, we address and reflect on the colonial and Eurocentric constructions that are still perpetuated in art today, from the curatorial discipline, the soundscape and the contemporary art of indigenous peoples. On the other hand, we also present theoretical approaches on Dramatic Arts, such as empty space, scenic play and the distinctions between payaso and clown.

We close the issue with a children's dramatic play that has already been staged in Costa Rican territory, a trombone musical arrangement of four compositions by Julio Fonseca, a Costa Rican composer, and an interview on the state of academic training in the Arts in Cuba.

You are cordially invited to read and share our new issue. We thank the Vicerrectoría de Investigación and the Sistema de Estudios de Posgrado (SEP) of the University of Costa Rica for their support in the publication of this issue.
ESCENA.
We invite you to read our most recent quarterly special issue, dedicated to texts longer than an article. It consists of a work on the philosophy of art by Argentinian researcher Bruno Chuk.

It reflects on phenomenological ontology, the body and visual semiotics. Regarding the phenomenological ontology of the body, a third position is postulated with respect to the very contemporary counterpoint between Michel Henry and Martin Heidegger, and it is associated with the discipline of Industrial Design.

You can read the full text at the following link: https://revistas.ucr.ac.cr/index.php/escena/issue/view/3405
ESCENA.
We are pleased to share with you the new issue of our Journal. It includes seven academic articles, one reflection and three artworks. In this edition, we reflect on the origins of Costa Rican community public art, the different creative processes of public art, the representations of homosexual desire and hegemonic male bodies, and the representation of Maori body marking in filmic texts.

In the area of art as a profession, papers are presented that relate the emergence of the Cultural Management career at the University of Costa Rica, how the discipline of Graphic Design has evolved in the last 30 years and that share new methodologies for the teaching of dramaturgy.

In the other sections, we address social issues, such as the movement of an Argentine community and the struggle against mining zoning, toxic masculinity and its effect on women, and social precariousness, homelessness and hunger, from a more artistic and creative perspective.

We hope you find this issue useful.
ESCENA.
The new issue of our Journal is the first one entirely under the direction of our new technical editor Marco A. Arroyo-Mata. It includes research, papers and analyses that problematize the diverse ways in which art can be manifested, constructed and created: from the production of textiles from pineapple, the surgical mask (product of the health crisis), to the Caribbean native dances as a methodological input for performance.
We also include the international dossier "Historical perspectives for the study of artistic work in and from Latin America", in collaboration with Dr. Lía Sabrina Noguera and Dr. Karina Mauro, both from the University of Buenos Aires, the National University of the Arts and the Interdisciplinary Studies on Work and the Arts (EITyA). Finally, we present two musical works by national composers and an international play.
We wish you a fruitful 2023.
ESCENA.
