Resumen

En la actualidad, validar la reflexión y la actividad subjetiva en la vejez, tanto como la actividad objetiva externa, es un reto para la Gerontología: no solo se trata de aspirar a envejecer y mantenerse activo en el proceso, sino a reconocer también la relevancia de la actividad subjetiva en cuanto a reflexionar acerca de sí mismo, práctica necesaria para el desarrollo integral y equilibrado de la identidad frente a la demanda externa y progresiva de actividad objetiva y productiva en el sentido material. Una aproximación gerontológica con visión humanista (Baars, Dohmen, Grenier y Phillipson, 2013), en el paradigma ético del cuidado de sí-mismo, reconoce el desarrollo de la identidad en la vejez como un objetivo por encima del desarrollo de espacios de mera actividad productiva, al respecto, la Gerontología narrativa plantea que los seres humanos son seres creadores de sentido y significado (“meaning-making beings”, Kenyon, Bohlmeijer y Randall, 2010), por tanto, parte del potencial que yace en la posibilidad de educar con mejores herramientas a los envejecientes para favorecer los procesos de construcción de esos significados a partir de las propias experiencias vitales. Cabe resaltar, además, que desde dicha perspectiva, la vejez es el momento de la vida en el que más se ha trabajado en las habilidades narrativas.

 En este trabajo se centra en la descripción de los supuestos y abordajes psicogerontológicos que sustentan la propuesta de intervenciones propias de la Gerontología narrativa, basadas en la actividad del mundo subjetivo a partir de estrategias como la reminiscencia, la revisión de vida y la autobiografía.
