Questionnaires were applied during 2023 with a simple probabilistic sampling, where 15 public institutions answered open and closed questions, resulting in marked satisfaction towards the project and the cultural representations from which they benefited. When comparing the requirements of the MEP curriculum for the area of French, the State of Education Report for 2023 and the responses of the institutions, the deficiency of spaces within the classroom to work on the cultural component was identified, thus which demonstrated the importance and value of the activities developed by TCU-452 in the communities.

2024-12-03T00:00:00-06:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Roberto Rojas-Alfaro, Natalia Ramirez-Casalvolone https://revistas.ucr.ac.cr/index.php/pensamiento-actual/article/view/62863 Diagnosis of reading and writing skills of first-year students at the Western Campus, University of Costa Rica, during the year 2022 2024-11-17T05:15:38-06:00 Marlenne María Alfaro Alfaro marlenne.alfaro@ucr.ac.cr William Solórzano Vargas william.solorzano@ucr.ac.cr Guaner Rojas Rojas guaner.rojas@ucr.ac.cr Celenia Masís Chacón celenia.masis@ucr.ac.cr
This document presents the main results of the diagnosis carried out on a university student sample made up of 261 first-year students at the Western Campus of the University of Costa Rica during the year 2022. The main objective of the study was to determine the strengths and weaknesses in reading comprehension of first-year students in the various courses taught at the aforementioned university campus. Methodologically, the instrument called the Reading and Writing Skills Test (PHL) was applied to 100 men and 161 women, registered in 30 different courses. Among the main results obtained, after their analysis, the following is evident: with regard to strengths and weaknesses in reading comprehension, the majority of participants present weaknesses in one, several or all of the attributes evaluated (word, statement, paragraph and text), given that the established mastery probabilities —initial, in consolidation and competent— are present in students from all courses.

Forty percent of the students who took the PHL have an “initial” level of mastery in the four textual categories diagnosed by the test: word, statement, paragraph and text, while 23% have a “competent” mastery in the four categories. It was also determined that there is no relationship between the variables of gender or career and the results obtained in the PHL. That is, the average mastery of the categories does not vary nor does it show statistically significant differences between the group of men and women, or by career
2024-12-03T00:00:00-06:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Marlenne María Alfaro Alfaro, William Solórzano Vargas , Guaner Rojas Rojas , Celenia Masís Chacón https://revistas.ucr.ac.cr/index.php/pensamiento-actual/article/view/62866 Management model for the integration of virtual reality and augmented reality as didactic tools: Case Colegio Técnico Profesional de Nicoya 2024-11-17T05:48:41-06:00 Beyker Stefan Obando Zambrano beyker.obando@ucr.ac.cr Carlos Alberto Vega Alvarado carlos.vegaalvarado@ucr.ac.cr Luis Alberto Bermúdez Carillo luis.bermudez@ucr.ac.cr
This research aims to present a management model for the incorporation of virtual reality and augmented reality technologies at the Colegio Técnico Profesional de Nicoya. This model seeks to facilitate the effective integration of these tools into the educational environment by considering essential aspects for their successful implementation. The research is based on a descriptive and quantitative approach. Surveys were conducted with 306 students during the first quarter of 2023 to identify the subjects most suitable for applying these technologies and to gather information on the availability of electronic devices and the quality of Internet connectivity both at the educational institution and in students' homes. Furthermore, the research highlights the need to involve all stakeholders in the process, including teachers, students, and administrative staff. Continuous evaluation of technology use will allow for adjustments to strategies and maximize their effectiveness, thus ensuring that the proposed educational objectives are achieved and enhancing the learning experience.
2024-12-03T00:00:00-06:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Beyker Stefan Obando Zambrano, Carlos Alberto Vega Alvarado, Luis Alberto Bermúdez Carillo https://revistas.ucr.ac.cr/index.php/pensamiento-actual/article/view/62872 Specialized lexical repertoire used by the Costa Rican firefighters guild 2024-11-17T06:50:25-06:00 Esteban Piedra Matamoros estepima@gmail.com
The Dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy, in its electronic edition, defines firefighter as “a person whose job is to put out fires and provide assistance in the event of an accident.” In the exercise of this praiseworthy social work, the lexical component plays a fundamental role, since its correct use ensures the proper functioning of the tasks carried out in the institution. The objective of this work is directed in two directions: on the one hand, to contribute to lexicographic studies by carrying out a treatment of the collected corpus in accordance with the analysis models proposed by academic lexicography; on the other hand, the work has a didactic value aimed at the firefighters' guild as a reference document that standardizes the use of recurring words in the field. In addition, it helps in the immersion process in which volunteers and inexperienced firefighters enter.
2024-12-03T00:00:00-06:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Esteban Piedra Matamoros https://revistas.ucr.ac.cr/index.php/pensamiento-actual/article/view/62873 Descriptive study of the phonetic phonological features of the Peruvian dialect in university students from Lima 2020 2024-11-17T06:55:16-06:00 Andrey Gómez andrey.gomezjimenez@ucr.ac.cr 2024-12-03T00:00:00-06:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Andrey Gómez https://revistas.ucr.ac.cr/index.php/pensamiento-actual/article/view/62864 The shoggoth metaphor in the Artificial Intelligence 2024-11-17T05:28:10-06:00 Tadeo Masís González tadeo.masis@ucr.ac.cr
Through the shoggoth metaphor, the community around the development of large language models in artificial intelligence describes particular characteristics of this technology. Given their conditions of opacity and apparent incommensurability, these algorithmic models call to question some epistemological properties of technology and its role in the modern project. The purpose of this text is to present reflections extracted from the use of this metaphor in the context of artificial intelligence, so that it is possible to point out paradoxes for modern society and draw what could be new properties of technology.
2024-12-03T00:00:00-06:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Tadeo Masís González https://revistas.ucr.ac.cr/index.php/pensamiento-actual/article/view/62875 Time management analysis in engineering as a strategy for improving performance and reducing work stress 2024-11-17T07:12:18-06:00 Einer Rodríguez Rojas einer.rodriguez@ucr.ac.cr
Work stress has become one of the main health disorders worldwide. Daily occupations end up conditioning people to extend their working hours in order to fulfill their obligations. Important activities such as sharing with loved ones are relegated to the background. Physical problems, mental problems and problems in human relationships are just some of the consequences of being trapped in a circle of influence managed by stress. An alternative to reduce stress is to have greater availability of time, a valuable and unrepeatable resource that is possible to manage. The present research aims to provide options to manage time in a better way so that it finally translates into a decrease in stress. To comply with the study, a non-probabilistic convenience sample is used. Data collection is carried out using a predefined template. More than 1,300 data were generated that are processed using descriptive statistics to find possible time management patterns. When processing the data, a limitation to the study is identified that requires adjusting the model. The information can be subject to subjectivity, since the activity that for one individual may be contained in a classification, for another, the interpretation could be different. The conclusions suggest that the subjects of the study classify their activities as productive to a greater extent, however, not in all cases could they be classified as activities associated with medium-term objectives, many of them are governed by urgency and correspond to routine. The creation of habits and tools such as the ability to delegate are essential to accomplish tasks.
2024-12-03T00:00:00-06:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Einer Rodríguez Rojas https://revistas.ucr.ac.cr/index.php/pensamiento-actual/article/view/62869 Analysis of pre-professional practices in the Social Work Degree, Western Campus, UCR 2024-11-17T06:20:44-06:00 Doris Piñeiro Ruiz doris.pineiro@ucr.ac.cr Illiana Arroyo Navarro illiana.arroyo@ucr.ac.cr
This article presents the results of a study conducted at the Western Campus of the University of Costa Rica (UCR) by two professors from the Social Work program (CTS-SO) during the 2019-2020 period. The research focused on the potential of pre-professional practices as fundamental spaces for theoretical-practical integration, representing a key pedagogical resource for the training of Social Workers. These practices enable students to go beyond abstract theoretical knowledge, interact with social realities from the outset of their training, and actively engage in them, contributing to social transformation through the three dimensions of professional intervention: theoretical-methodological, technical-operational, and ethical-political, aimed at achieving an academically and contextually relevant practice. The study employed a qualitative methodology and was carried out with a group of students who completed their undergraduate Social Work internships between 2013 and 2018. The main findings indicate that pre-professional practices serve as growth spaces where the dialogue between university education and social reality fosters a practical understanding of the theoretical, technical, and ethical-political content taught in the classroom. Additionally, it was observed that these practices strengthen a socio-critical perspective in students regarding the needs of diverse populations and groups in the country.
2024-12-03T00:00:00-06:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Doris Piñeiro Ruiz, Illiana Arroyo Navarro https://revistas.ucr.ac.cr/index.php/pensamiento-actual/article/view/62867 Mammals of La Chiripa, The Chayote Protected Zone, 2024-11-17T05:57:26-06:00 Mario Elizondo Retana jelizondo@naranjo.go.cr Melvin Cartín-Núñez melvin.cartin@ucr.ac.cr

Introduction: la Chiripa Municipal Estate is part of El Chayote Protected Zone (ZPC) located in the Central Region of Costa Rica. The predominant Life Zones in the area are lower montane wet forest and lower montane rain forest. Additionally, it borders the biological corridor known as Paso de las Nubes, where other protected wilderness areas with high biological richness are located, including Juan Castro Blanco National Park, Poás Volcano National Park, Río Toro Protected Zone, and Alberto Manuel Brenes Biological Reserve. Despite this, there are no scientific studies supporting its importance in the region. Objective: to create an inventory of wild mammal species of medium or large size (≥500 g), residents in the Municipal Estate La Chiripa, ZPC. Materials and methods: weekly on-foot surveys were conducted along different transects within the study area. Three Bestok® brand camera of 12 megapixels of high-definition traps were placed over five months, in places where signs of wild mammals were observed. Results: a total of thirteen species of mammals from nine different families were recorded, which include endangered species such as: the ocelot (Leopardus pardalis), the margay (Leopardus wiedii), the mountain lion (Puma concolor) and the yaguarundi (Herpailurus yagouaroundi. A total of 1113 mammal species from 9 different families were recorded, including endangered species. Additionally, an increase in invasive activities, such as motorcycle entry into the protected wilderness area, was evident. This activity led to decreased sightings at the site and significant damage to the municipal estate’s trails due to illegal use.
2024-12-03T00:00:00-06:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Mario Elizondo Retana, Melvin Cartín-Núñez https://revistas.ucr.ac.cr/index.php/pensamiento-actual/article/view/62868 Analysis of local stakeholders in the collaborative management of “Nahuatlaca – Matlazinca” state park, Mexico 2024-11-17T06:02:48-06:00 Alfonso Aguilar Pedraza geodiversiago@gmail.com Gandhi González Guerrero ggonzalezgu@uaemex.mex Maria Eugenia Valdez Pérez mevaldezp@uaemex.mx Cosme Rubén Nieto Hernández cnietoh657@profesor.uaemex.mx
This research is developed from the perspective of shared governance. The purpose of this study is to analyze the collaborative relationships among social actors in San Pedro Techuchulco through the Social Analysis System (SAS-CLIP) to determine their influence on the management of the Nahuatlaca-Matlazinca State Park (PENM), Mexico. The methodology used comprises two phases: the first phase involves characterizing the social actors (identification and categorization profiles of actors); the second phase consists of analyzing the collaborative and/or conflict relationships. According to the results obtained, there is a lack of collaborative management and conflict among the identified actors, which poses an obstacle to establishing and achieving specific objectives that address the needs of the community and the natural resource management of the PENM. The community needs to establish links for decision-making that allow for incorporating collective strategies and fostering community participation within the shared governance framework of protected natural areas.
2024-12-03T00:00:00-06:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Alfonso Aguilar Pedraza, Gandhi González Guerrero, Maria Eugenia Valdez Pérez, Cosme Rubén Nieto Hernández
