This paper explains the theoretical and legal elements that may allow a paradigm shift in the right to a healthy environment in the Mexican legal system, moving from anthropocentrism to ecocentrism. In this sense, the origin of this right, its philosophical basis, and the way in which Mexico can adopt an ecocentric model for the understanding of legal problems are analyzed.
