Abstract
This article aims to study the origin of sport in Honduras from 1903 to 1921, when soccer
and baseball acquired the national representation category. This study examines issues
from La Prensa (1908-1916), El Nuevo Tiempo (1911-1919), El Cronista (1917-1919), Revista
Los Sucesos (1918-1921), Revista Tegucigalpa (1919) and Diario Excélsior (1921) so as to
determine a historical reconstruction of sports in Honduras between 1903 and 1921. From
these facts we conclude that, during the time period studied, sport in Honduras was controlled
by the national bourgeoisie and the main foreign colonies. Moreover, the Honduran
State’s economical and political weakness resulted in meager support for the social and
national development of sports in general.
