Abstract

Therapeutic change is presented through the lens of Focusing and the Philosophy of the Implicit, both developed by Eugene Gendlin, PhD. Change begins with carrying forward, a force that accompanies the entire focusing process in a therapeutic session, with a theoretical explanation provided by this new model of the Implicit. Change is conceived as an experiential and holistic phenomenon that operates from the body and culminates in perception according to a new model; in contrast to the old model, which attributes therapeutic change to perception and from there extends to the emotional dimension. This new model is grounded in the priority of the body (preconceptual symbolization) and culminates in a change in perception. carrying forward, culminates in therapeutic change that turns out to be a total and experiential transformation, removing the wound and the emotional pattern that generates symptoms. This transcendent and spiritual experience can be observed and facilitated in the final stage of focusing as a phenomenon we have termed the Panoramic View, where therapists are encouraged to perform actions to remove symptoms and consolidate therapeutic change.
