Photographs were taken of participants using a positioner, which allowed standardizing the position of the head, then the pictures were classified based on the parameters of the smile, Tjan (1984). We conclude that the average smile predominant in males in the province of Alajuela and the high smile in female. In the province of Guanacaste the average smile prevails in both gender. The analysis of the relationship of upper incisal edges and lower lip shows that in the province of Alajuela a parallel smile is the predominant characteristic.
