Abstract

Objective. The present work aimed to test a mediation model to determine if victimization and the quality of the bond with friends predicted emotional problems. Method. An intentional sample of 1151 Argentinean adolescents ages ranged from 11 to 18 (54% were women and 46% men). Results. The mediational model found that victimization was a strong predictor of the quality of the relationship with friends, as well as emotional problems; also the quality of the relationship with friends predicted said problems. However, victimization was a more significant predictor of emotional problems than the relationship with the friend. It was observed that the model was not structurally invariant according to gender.
