Abstract

Objective: How are related the causal attribution and the sense of others with the guilt experience? Furthermore, there is a reflection on what the Grounded Theory is and how it contributes to approach the research problem. Participants: 10 prison inmates by fraud in Costa Rica were interviewed. Method: The Psychopathy Checklist-Revised is applied to 34 prison inmates. Then, those individuals with the highest and lowest scores in psycopathy are interviewed. The answers of the participants are analyzed according to the principles of the Grounded Theory, in its straussian version. Results: Novelty categories, about sense of others and causal attribution, appeared from data. When comparing its presence according to psychopathy scores, it can be concluded that guilt seems to be associated with a more internal and controllable locus and with a sense of the others that emphasizes in the moral aspects of people and its situations.
