Abstract
This presentation is about math modeling in the framework of the educational theory of math in the context of science for the university level. Said theory is described and considered to be a theory of the process of teaching and learning math as a system where five phases of the theory interact: the curricular, didactic, cognitive, epistemological, and teaching phases. The results of various studies on the didactic phase that have been carried out to determine the concepts of math models and the process of math modeling, such as, define the cognitive elements and thinking abilities that are necessary to be able to carry out math modeling in the learning environment are presented. Also, presented are research results that offer a didactic strategy, known as Math in Context, for the development of math modeling competencies.Comments
