Abstract
This document develops a historical account and the tracing of the perspectives of the School of Mathematics of the University of Costa Rica (UCR), writen in the year 1993 by 3 members of this dependency. The same one synthesizes the stages of the mathematics within the institutional frame of the UCR, before and after the Reform of Rodrigo Facio, and the creation of the School of Mathematics. It identifies two of the main ideological “vectors” that determined much of the life of this School, and establishes some perspectives that the authors at that moment believed could be accomplished during the following years: approximately 15 years behind.
