Resumen
La actividad física de intensidad alta y el deporte correctamente realizados pueden ser fuente de beneficios para la salud de la persona mayor. No obstante, existe la necesidad de investigar el plano socioemocional del entrenamiento porque puede estar excesivamente enfocado a la mejora en la ejecución y el rendimiento, especialmente en personas mayores que compiten. En el presente trabajo se pretende observar posibles aportes de la práctica de actividad física de intensidad alta y del deporte al envejecimiento exitoso. Para ello, se realizó un estudio observacional transversal con muestreo incidental de N=120 personas mayores españolas (de 60 años o más). Se midió el nivel de intensidad de actividad física realizada y se observaron las puntuaciones en las diferentes dimensiones del envejecimiento exitoso y variables relacionadas. Se observó que las personas que practicaban una actividad física de intensidad alta presentaban un mayor autocuidado físico. Se aportó nueva evidencia a que la realización de actividad física intensa y el deporte durante el envejecimiento contribuyen al autocuidado de la persona mayor; esto puede ayudar a tener un envejecimiento más exitoso. Finalmente, se sugirió que el entrenamiento con actividad física de intensidad alta de las personas mayores debería enfocarse en fomentar aspectos como el autocuidado y la socialización.
