La CIA y la diplomacia estadounidense en Costa Rica: José Figueres, el ‘antiamericanismo’ y la Guerra Fría descentrada, 1968-1973

En este artículo se analizan las percepciones que la CIA y el Departamento de Estado de los Estados Unidos tuvieron del Partido Liberación Nacional y de su principal líder a inicios de la década de 1970: José Figueres Ferrer. El estudio se hace a partir de los archivos desclasificados por ambas instancias del gobierno estadounidense. El análisis propuesto se realiza mediante una perspectiva descentrada, lo cual permite repensar las dinámicas globales de la Guerra Fría desde la agencia y las condiciones de posibilidad de los actores costarricenses en un escenario de presiones políticas e ideológicas. El artículo concluye que las percepciones de los oficiales norteamericanos sobre la política costarricense se explican por la autonomía que ganaron los actores latinoamericanos durante la distensión.
