Abstract

This article addresses the history of higher education in Costa Rica, with special emphasis on the controversy that arose regarding the reopening of a university in the country. Furthermore, this work is aimed at identifying the criteria that prevailed during the University’s creation, as regards its mission and structure, as well as rescuing other existing criteria on this same topic.
