This article addresses the implementation of the “TECdatos” Research Data Repository within the Library System (SIBITEC) of the Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC). The initiative arose in response to the absence of an institutional platform dedicated to the preservation, dissemination, and management of research data, and in alignment with the growing demands of open science and the policies of academic publishers. The methodology comprised a training phase in research data management, a comparative analysis of institutional experiences and research data repositories, and an evaluation of software platforms to determine the most suitable alternative for the institutional context. The analysis of experiences from international universities made it possible to identify practices related to the organization, workflows, and research data management processes, which served as a reference for guiding the design and implementation of TECdatos. Based on the evaluation of software platforms, Dataverse was selected because of its specialization in research data management, its user community, and its institutional support. In addition, a customized metadata template was designed and policies for data management and publication were established, considering the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) and the Costa Rican legal framework. The implementation of the TECdatos Repository represents progress in the adoption of open science practices at the institution and in Costa Rica by providing institutional infrastructure for the preservation, management, publication, and visibility of research data.
