Abstract
This article is part of a wider investigation; the theme is the social construction of urban and architectural heritage in San Jose City, Costa Rica. The project aims to analyze how the concept of heritage has been built in Costa Rica, specifically in San Jose City, the capital. In this paper is a review of the postulates of the principal authors of the cultural studies to define a scheme applicable to the case study analysis. The article is divided into four sections: begins with the work of the pioneers of this type of study in England, then its impact is analyzed elsewhere, for example, the development of postcolonial studies in India , the work of Latin American authors , and finally make reference to their impact on the development of cultural studies in Costa Rica.
