The journal Reflexiones is a multidisciplinary, biannual publication (January–June and July–December) of the School of Social Sciences, published by the University of Costa Rica, which fosters academic reflection on global social realities and, in particular, those of Latin America. It serves as a platform for the production of knowledge that contributes to the field of the social sciences; the articles it publishes are theoretically and methodologically grounded and are the result of academic research and reflection. The target audience consists of faculty members, researchers, and students at the national and international levels.

It publishes, disseminates, and promotes work in accordance with the Open Access philosophy, as the democratization of and access to information is the fundamental basis of its mission. Consequently, the journal and each of its articles are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) license, meaning that authors incur no costs for article processing or submission and may distribute, download, and store the articles free of charge. It is one of the official journals of the University of Costa Rica and, due to its scientific standards, is included in:

It has an Editorial Board composed of representatives from the various academic units of the School of Social Sciences and from foreign universities, who are selected based on their academic merits and scientific prestige. At the Board’s meetings, initiatives are proposed and analyzed to ensure the continuous improvement of the journal, and the relevance of submitted articles is evaluated based on their subject matter. The appointment of reviewers for each submitted article is the responsibility of this Board.

In addition, there is a Scientific Committee composed of experts and specialists from around the world in specific topics covered by the journal, whose role is to oversee editorial content and the journal’s development on specific topics. Furthermore, this Committee seeks to solicit contributions from potential authors and, when appropriate, evaluate articles in their field.
