Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Express authorization to publish the article.
  • Declaration of originality and unpublished nature of the article.
  • Acceptance of the magazine's Code of Ethics.
  • Author's full name and minimum curriculum vitae (academic degree and academic or institutional affiliation).
  • Summary of the article in Spanish and English (abstract).
  • Keywords in Spanish and English language (keywords).
  • At least the sections of introduction, development, conclusions and bibliographical references.
  • Title of the article in Spanish and English (title).
  • The text is single-spaced, 12-point font size, italics are used instead of underlining (except in URLs), and all illustrations, figures and tables are placed in the appropriate places in the text, rather than at the end.
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF or WordPerfect format.
  • Whenever possible, URLs are provided for references.

Anyone wishing to publish in the Journal should send their article to the following address:

CONTENT OF THE ARTICLES

All items must necessarily include:

  • Express authorization for publication.
  • Declaration of originality and unpublished nature of the article.
  • Acceptance of the journal's Code of Ethics.
  • Author's full name and minimum curriculum vitae (academic degree and academic or institutional affiliation).
  • Summary of the article in Spanish and English (abstract).
  • Key words in Spanish and English (keywords).
  • At least the sections of introduction, development, conclusions and bibliographical references.

PUBLICATION DATES

The Revista Digital de Ciencias Penales publishes one issue per year, with articles published between October and November.

FORMAT OF THE ARTICLES

Items must meet the following form characteristics:

  • 12 point font, single spacing, justified alignment, indentation on the first line of 1.25, left and right margins of 3 cm and top and bottom margins of 2.5 cm.
  • The file format should be Open Document Text (.odt), Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or Rich Text Format (.rtf).
  • In principle, its length should not exceed 50,000 characters.

CITATION SYSTEM AND BIBLIOGRAPHIC REFERENCES

The international citation and bibliographic reference system used and authorized in the Revista Digital de Ciencias Penales de Costa Rica is APA (6th edition).

ARTICLE EVALUATION PROCEDURE

The following rules make up the methodology used in the article publication procedure: 

  1. The articles received are reviewed by the editor and, if they meet the requirements, they are sent to an external peer expert in the subject matter (referee) to which the article refers (single blind system).
  2. The referees will be external to the Editorial Board, may be national or foreign and will be appointed by the Academic Direction and the editor of the journal. They shall have one month to render their opinion.
  3. The opinion of the referees will evaluate the quality of the arguments, the methodology of the research, as well as its conclusions and the impact and contribution they imply for the state of knowledge and legal praxis.
  4. Once the opinion has been rendered by the peers, it will be submitted to the Editorial Board of the Journal.
  5. The decision of the Editorial Board will be communicated to the author, and in case it is necessary to make any modification or correction, the author will be granted a period of 5 days to do so.
  6. The evaluation of the articles lasts between 2 and 3 months.

PLAGIARISM DETECTION POLICY

The Revista Digital de Ciencias Penales en Costa Rica uses as plagiarism detection systems the manual examination of articles by the editor, as well as the Turnitin automated system.

In the event that the possible existence of plagiarism is determined, the journal's Code of Ethics will be followed.

The names and e-mail addresses entered in this magazine will be used exclusively for the purposes set forth herein and will not be provided to third parties or for use for other purposes.
