About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The Journal of Science and Technology is an official publication of the University of Costa Rica, sponsored by the Faculty of Sciences of this institution. Its objective is to disseminate scientific production in an interdisciplinary setting. This is achieved through the publication of original articles in the areas of chemical, environmental, and earth sciences, engineering, life sciences, mathematics, physics, and science education. The journal is published in Spanish and English and is aimed at professionals in STEM fields.

Peer Review System

Articles submitted to the Journal undergo a peer review and evaluation process known as "double-blind." This mechanism is carried out by scientific peers external to the journal, both national and international, and is anonymous for both referees and authors. The final decision on publication is made by the Journal's editor, based on the evaluations made by the reviewers.

Publication Frequency

The Journal of Science and Technology publishes articles biannually in bulk as part of an issue with its table of contents. The first issue covers the period from January to June, and the second issue covers the period from July to December.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides free and immediate access to its content based on the principle that making research freely available to the public fosters a greater global exchange of knowledge. Content may be reproduced if the source and copyright are acknowledged.

Ethical Principles, Copyright, and Funding

Science and Technology does not charge any fees for submission, editing, or publication. Submitted papers will be reviewed by at least two experts with experience in the subject matter, selected based on their academic training and experience.

Copyright is openly shared by both the authors and the journal. The content of the articles may be reproduced if the source and copyright are acknowledged. Self-storage on servers and preprint repositories is permitted for all versions.

The Journal uses the Turnitin® system for plagiarism detection. If a work contains a total or partial reproduction of other documents, the authors will be given the opportunity for clarification. If the clarification is unsatisfactory, the decision will be made to reject the manuscript.

The Journal is publicly funded through the University of Costa Rica, and editorial independence and ethical compliance are guaranteed by SIEDIN standards
