Abstract
Futures Studies are important around the world to predict technological and social changes, as demonstrated with a simple Internet search. Paradoxically, these studies are neither promoted nor relevant in Costa Rica, in the opinion of this author. This article discusses broadly the main concepts and implications of the field, based on a critical analysis of the book of title The Five Regions of the Future by Barker and Erickson, which has no Spanish translation and which presents not one but five possible ways in which technology can transform the future of Humanity. Their proposal is compared with the views of other authors and predictions of the World Future Society, ending with a recommendations to be implemented in Costa Rica.Comments
