Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the perception of in-service mathematics teachers about the preparation on competencies received during their training as teachers of mathematics at the Universidad Nacional (Costa Rica); specifically in areas such as Geometry, Algebra, Calculus, Analysis, Assessment, Curriculum and Planning, Teaching and Learning Theory. To achieve this, it was necessary to determine the competencies that are developed in the mentioned areas by the curricular analysis of this program of studies, and the opinion of professors and advanced students about this program. After this, the criteria were constructed to investigate the perception of in-service mathematics teachers regarding the competencies supposedly promoted in the University, and to learn how these competencies impact on their work in the classroom.
