Resumo
En este trabajo se muestra como reciente estudios sociolingüísticos pueden contribuir al estudio y comprensión del discurso persuasivo. Se analizan tres componentes del discurso persuasivo y dos estrategias persuasivas. Esto explica por qué estas estrategias están condicionadas por el sistema lingüístico en el que operan. También muestra cómo las estrategias persuasivas difieren de un grupo étnico a otro y por qué usar una estrategia persuasiva ante un público no familiarizado con ella puede, en ciertas situaciones, causar problemas graves.
This paper illustrates how recent sociolinguistic studies can contribute to the study and understanding of persuasive discourse. It discusses three components of persuasive discourse and two persuasive strategies. It explains why these strategies are condiúoned by the linguistic system in which they operate. It also shows how persuasive strategies differ from one ethnic group to another and why using a persuasive strategy before an audience not familiar with it may, in certain situaúons, cause serious problems.
