Abstract

The images have been an important in the construction of national imaginaries and identities in Latin America. From that premise, this paper examines the role that some have represented in the artistic process of cultural construction in the nation in Mexico during the second half of the 19th Century and the dawn of the 20th Century. The author takes into account a representative selection of allegorical images, painting and art historical theme statues developed in this period. There is a particular emphasis on two areas of study: the figures of national heroes and historical scenes that will be part of the overall mythology of the mexican nation origin.
