Abstract
Reproductive characteristics of commercialy important estuarine fishes were studied in three areas as sociated to mangrove zones in the Gulf of Nicoya, Costa Rica, from April 1992 to June 1993. The species were: Ariopsis seemanni. A. dovii. A. osculus. Cathorops tuyra and C. steindachneri. Gónadal inspection and occurrence of adults indicated prolonged and variable spawning during the mid-rainy season characterized by a craneal deformation in the males and the forrnation of a fleshy protuberance in the pelvic fin base of femalesComments
