Abstract
A study is made of 65 cases of malignant tumors of the lips, histologically diagnozed, observed in Costa Rica during the period 1939-1953. The following points are considered: a) a statistical analysis of the case distribution according to sex, age race, occupation, geographical distribution, histologic type, site, beginning and size of the lesion, and a comparison of the results of other authors. b) incidence of the different clinical signs in spinocellular and basocellular. epitheliomas of both sexes. c) occupation and habits of the patients as related to the histopathologic picture, and possible etiological causes, among which tobacco may be considered foremost. d) determination of the clinical stage and importance of relating it to treatment and course.Comments
