Abstract
Complement fixation test using culture forms of Schizotrypanum cruz; and Strigomonas oncopelti as the antigens were carried out and compared employing the Kolmer qualitative and the Freitas quantitative techniques, both slightly modified. 57 positive (3 and 4 plus) and doubtful (2 plus) sera were used, selected by the Kolmer technique using S. cruzi as the antigen and sera of 5 cases of verified Chagas disease, of 8 cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis, and of 3 normal individuals were employed as the controls. The S. oncopelti antigen did not fix complement in the qualitative test. Using the Freitas technique, the heterologous antigen gave, in general, lower titers and was less specific since it reacted more strongly than the S. cruzi antigen against sera of cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis.Comments
