Abstract
Aren de Conservación Guanacaste (ACG) on the northern part of Costa Rica, has coral communities and refs even though il is located in an upwelling area. Eleven coral species have been found. Pavona gigantea form coral reefs that are different to reefs found elsewhere in the eastem Pacifico. A small patch reef constructed by Pocillopora eydouxi is also unique. One of the largest Pocillopora reefs in Costa Rica is located at the Islas Murciélago Archipelago. The marine environments of ACG are interesting and valuable. but very little studied as compared to the terestrial environments.Comments
