Abstract

The essay starts with a brief survey of the impact exercised by the Subaltern Studies of Southeast Asia, born in India during the 70s, in some areas of the Latin American Studies. Departing from this survey, the author, who is not a historian, proposes that the study of some Latin American historical realities could benefit from a more intense interaction with some of the conceptual possibilities posited by the Subaltern Studies. The essay ends by suggesting some notions developed by this school that could prove enriching for the Latin American historiography, as well as some subjects in which their usage could be useful.
