Abstract

Parting from an in depth study of the Minutes of the Asamblea Nacional Constituyente (National Constituent Assembly) of 1949 in Costa Rica, this article analyzes the processes, motivations, justifications, and ideological-political mechanisms present in the construction of an anticommunist discourse as a means of excluding political parties and labelling political actions, that reached its maximum expression with the declaration of unconstitutionality of the Vanguardia Popular Party, which would later become a central axis of the political configuration and ideological orientation of the “Second Republic” during the most frigid years of the Cold War.
