Abstract

The Freemasons have been studied from a scientific and historiographical perspective recently. Since research on Freemasonry became important at some universities the Masons gained some visibility. This article examines first the reasons for excluding women and the history of their active presence since the origins of Freemasonry. This discussion on the origins is presented before showing current issues and trends. The history of the Freemasons is not more universal than that of Freemasonry. It is closely related to national contexts. Both internal factors and social progress have contributed to women’s empowerment. The history of Freemasonry t is therefore written differently in English-speaking countries than in France. Over the last two years, since the opening of the main sister’s obedience French male, the Masonic landscape has changed considerably and is still undergoing transformation, of contrasts between Freemasonry liberal, advocating freedom of conscience and a freemasonry requiring belief in God and categorically refusing the admission of women.
