Resumen
A pesar de las transformaciones mundiales de los últimos 30 años y las crisis económicas y humanitarias en Corea del Norte, el régimen político ha subsistido y no parece estar próximo a su fin. Este artículo discute dos factores subyacentes que proporcionan estabilidad para su supervivencia: por un lado, se mantiene una economía centralmente planificada, pero bajo un arreglo informal que tolera un mercado negro y ciertos niveles de corrupción; por otro lado, el programa nuclear contribuye a mantener la cohesión interna del Partido de los Trabajadores con el sector militar y legitima la permanencia del régimen ante amenazas externas, sean reales o fabricadas. Se concluye que los fundamentos de poder del régimen de Pyongyang siguen en pie, por lo que cabe la posibilidad de que supere las adversidades presentes y futuras, que la familia Kim conserve cierto margen de maniobra en su política interna y externa y continúe al mando indefinidamente.
