Author Guidelines

Guidelines for authors

InterSedes Journal receives articles in Spanish and English.

Due to the multidisciplinary nature of the Journal, it is recommended that the author indicate at least two people who can act as peer reviewers to contribute to the peer bank.

The following requirements are established according to the type of manuscript delivered to the InterSedes Journal. The Journal publishes scientific articles, technical notes, book reviews, bibliographic reviews and literary works (stories, poems, others).

The journal recommends the use of an automatic reference tool for the generation of the article's bibliographical references, some examples of this tool are Microsoft Office Word’s References tool and Mendely. Other automatic reference tools are available online.

  1. The works must be original, previously unpublished, and cannot have been sent to another journal for its publication. Each author must send, along with the proposal, the Authorship, Originality, and Copyright Transfer Agreement in which he/she guarantees that the collaboration is unpublished and that it has not been sent to another journal, in addition to the Copyright Transfer Agreement. [Download here]. In the case of articles by several authors, download here. You must attach the identification documents (identity card or passport).
  2. The maximum length of each article is 25 letter-size pages, including graphics, tables, notes, references, and annexes. Times New Roman must be used, font 11 and line spacing of 1.5. The margins should be 2.5 cm at the top and bottom, and 3 cm on the right and left margins.
  3. Captions, table titles, and graphics must not use bold or all-capital letters.
  4. Tables and graphics must be incorporated into the text in image format and indicate their source. The quality of the images must be at least 300 dpi, and they must be in jpg, png or gif format. In addition, they must send the source files of the tables and graphs.
  5. The use of “double tabs” between paragraphs must be avoided (do not leave a blank line between paragraphs).
  6. Complete the author and institution form which contains the following data: Name, Nationality, Profession, place of work, email and their ORCID identification [Download the form]. It must be clear what the contribution of each of the authors is (financing, research design, data collection, information analysis, manuscript writing, tutor).
  7. The article must include a title, abstract and keywords (at least 5 are recommended). These three items must be in Spanish and English. The translation must be prepared by an English specialist. Regarding the selection of keywords, it is recommended to use the UNESCO thesaurus: http://vocabularies.unesco.org/browser/thesaurus/es/.
  8. The summary should indicate what was investigated, what methodological procedures were used and what results were achieved. It should not exceed 250 words.
  9. The pages must be numbered.
  10. In the articles in which photographs and images of people appear, the authors must provide a letter of approval from the subject for the use of their image. If photographs of children are used, they must provide permission from their parents or legal guardians.
  11. Citations and bibliographic references must use the APA 2019 style. 7th edition.
  12. The bibliographic references are composed only of the books and documents used in the content of the article.
  13. The bibliographic references are arranged in alphabetical order. They are not numbered or capitalized.
  14. The author(s) must respect the use of citation. If plagiarism is detected, the article will be immediately withdrawn from the journal.
  15. If citations derived from web sources are used, the reference must be active. This implies that the link must be current or "active". If the link inserted in the text or in the bibliographic references is “broken”, the reference will be eliminated by the editor of the journal.
  16. InterSedes magazine only publishes scientific articles, technical notes, bibliographic reviews and literary works (see below for types of manuscripts). No presentations, research reports, abstracts, or correspondence are published.

Academic Articles (Peer-Reviewed Section)

Editorial Policy for Scientific Articles (Peer-Reviewed Section)

To ensure the publication of high-quality content, InterSedes applies a peer review system in which manuscripts are evaluated by specialists in the relevant field. This process follows a double-blind model, meaning that neither the authors nor the reviewers are aware of each other’s identities, thereby guaranteeing impartiality and academic rigor.

Manuscripts submitted for review in this section may exhibit various characteristics: they are typically the result of research projects or academic practice; they offer original and relevant contributions to their field of study; they may involve multiple authors; they include specialized bibliographic references; and, depending on the discipline, they meet specific methodological requirements.

The recommended structure for these articles includes five main sections: introduction, materials or methods, results, discussion, and conclusions, followed by the list of references.

In addition to the above guidelines, scientific articles must have a minimum length of 15 pages and a maximum of 25. The text must be double-spaced (1.5 line spacing), with no extra spacing between paragraphs.

Each manuscript must include an abstract in Spanish (or in the language in which the article is written) and its English version. The abstract should clearly state the objectives of the work, the methodology used, the main results, and the principal conclusions.

In addition, at least five keywords must be provided in Spanish and five in English, placed immediately after the abstract in each language.

All in-text citations and references must follow the style guidelines established by the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th edition. Authors are encouraged to consult the latest edition of the APA Style Manual to ensure proper citation and bibliographic formatting.

Literature Review (Peer-Reviewed Section)

Editorial Policy for the Literature Review Section (Peer-Reviewed)

In order to ensure the publication of high-quality literature reviews, this section of InterSedes is subject to a rigorous peer-review process conducted by specialists in the manuscript’s area of focus. The review is carried out under a double-blind system, meaning that neither the authors nor the reviewers are aware of each other's identities, thus ensuring impartiality and academic rigor throughout the editorial process.

Manuscripts submitted to this section aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of knowledge on a specific topic. This includes identifying significant advances, ongoing gaps, and potential future lines of research. Literature reviews must demonstrate strong critical synthesis and contribute conceptual clarity to the field of study.

The information may be presented through various analytical approaches, such as critical essays, descriptive or comparative analyses, or theoretical confrontations. The text must not exceed 20 pages and should include an abstract in the original language of the manuscript along with its English translation, as well as at least five keywords in both languages.

Technical Note (Peer-Reviewed Section)

Editorial Policy for the Technical Note Section (Peer-Reviewed)

To ensure the publication of technically sound and high-quality work, this section of InterSedes adheres to a peer-review system conducted by specialists in the relevant subject area. The review process follows a double-blind model, meaning that neither the authors nor the reviewers are aware of each other’s identities, thereby ensuring impartiality and academic rigor in the selection of manuscripts.

Technical notes aim to concisely communicate specific advancements, relevant observations, or practical proposals related to experimental techniques, equipment design or use, descriptions of natural phenomena, identification of new species, regulatory issues, or applied methodologies. They may also address operational solutions to technical problems within a specific discipline.

These texts must be brief, clear, and focused, with a maximum length of 15 pages. Each technical note must include an abstract in the original language of the manuscript and its English version, along with at least five keywords in both languages.

Book Reviews (Non-Peer-Reviewed)

Editorial Policy for the Book Review Section (Non-Peer-Reviewed)

Book reviews published in InterSedes are indexed but not subjected to peer review. However, they undergo editorial screening to ensure relevance, clarity, and overall quality. Like other types of manuscripts, reviews are published within a dedicated section of the journal.

Reviews may follow different formats depending on the author’s approach:

a) Descriptive: offer a general overview of the book’s content and characteristics, aimed at informing a broad readership.

b) Analytical: delve into the book’s content and assess its contribution within a specific field of knowledge.

c) Critical: provide a well-argued engagement with the book’s ideas, highlighting its strengths, examining its theses, and, where appropriate, proposing alternative perspectives. These reviews promote open and constructive academic discussion and do not engage in destructive criticism.

Book reviews must not exceed 15 pages in length. Abstracts and keywords are not required.

The submitted file must include the following:

  • Full bibliographic details of the reviewed work (title, author, publisher, year of publication, and total number of pages).

  • Full name of the review’s author.

  • A footnote with the author’s institutional affiliation, academic credentials, and email address.

Reviews may be submitted in any of the journal’s official languages and may cover publications from diverse fields of knowledge.

Editorial Policy for the Literary or Artistic Works Section (Non-Peer-Reviewed)

Their inclusion in InterSedes reflects the journal’s commitment to fostering cultural expression and strengthening interdisciplinary dialogue among the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

Submissions will be reviewed exclusively by the editorial team to assess thematic relevance, originality, and adherence to the journal’s formal guidelines.
