Research methodology for studies in migrant memory and female migration: the case of Nicaraguan migrants in the Costa Rican Pacific region

Abstract

This paper is a methodological proposal towards the research of the historic memory and the migratory experience from a gendered perspective, with particular interest in the study of Nicaraguan migrant women residing in Costa Rica. The research problem and context are discussed, and the approach, methodological design, suggested sources of information, instruments and strategies for analysis and interpretation are presented. The aim of this proposal is to serve as a guideline for the elaboration of this research modality, as well as to offer practical instruments for its execution.

Author Biographies

  • Daniela Arroyo Barrantes, Spanish

    Daniela Arroyo Barrantes is an archaeologist, research and professor of research methods and cultural market research at the University of Costa Rica. Dr. Arroyo obtained her PhD degree at the University of Cambridge, where she focused on applied technologies and quatitative analysis for the social sciences. Prior to that, she completed the masters degree in archaeology with honors at University College London, United Kingdom, and the bachelors degree in archaeological sciences at the University of Rome La Sapienza, Italy.  She has served as a consultant for the World Heritage Centre, UNESCO, Paris, and as a specialist in advanced analytics and business intelligence for multiple global organizations.

    Nicol Jiménez Elizondo es asistente de investigación en gestión cultural. Actualmente cursa la
    carrera en gestión cultural de la Universidad de Costa Rica. Posee formación en investigación de
    mercados, marketing y finanzas para la cultura. Ha participado como asistente en múltiples
    programas de investigación en el Pacífico Central.
