Introduction: Water management in the Suchiate basin is crucial for the survival of these communities. The towns have developed water management systems based on a deep knowledge of local realities. In the highlands, there is more reliance on water recharge areas, while on the southern coast, the rivers are larger and have abundant water.
Objective: Determine the forms of organization, conflict and management of water in the Suchiate River basin, which allow us to know the potential of this water asset.
Method: Qualitative in nature, ethnography and the study of bibliographic sources were used to analyze three different cases on water management in the Suchiate basin.
Results: The Suchiate River basin has been the scene of conflicts over water and land, where the dispute over water sources has been a persistent problem. These conflicts have been exacerbated by factors such as drug trafficking and the lack of legal recognition of lands.
