Resumen
La geminación es una rara anomalía de desarrollo de los tejidos duros del diente, derivada del intento que hace un germen dental por dividirse; la caracteriza una invaginación provocada por la formación incompleta de dos dientes, presenta dos coronas total o parcialmente separadas, con una sola raíz y un solo conducto radicular. Los términos de diente doble, formaciones dobles y unión de dientes, se utilizan para describirla. En la geminación, el número total de dientes es normal. Su prevalencia es poco frecuente y más común en la región maxilar anterior. La etiología es desconocida aunque se relaciona con interacciones complejas de variedad de factores genéticos y ambientales. En este artículo se presenta la revisión de literatura sobre geminación y el caso de una paciente femenina de 8 años de edad, con un canino temporal maxilar geminado, asintomático y que no necesitó tratamiento.
