Abstract
Hip fractures are a common cause of morbidity and mortality, mainly in elderly people, nevertheless, as world population ́s life expectation grows up, more people is in danger of suffering from this clinical condition. Another important issue is that an accurate diagnosis and an appropriate treatment in an early manner are critical to reduce the risk of major complications, that traditionally have been associated to this lesion, as immobilization, infec- tions, pulmonary embolism and the lost of functional independency, mainly in elderly fragile patients. In this article, a comprehensive revision of the different forms of hip fractures is presented, as well as the right surgical techniques to fix them and the new therapeutic tools that have been developed.Comments
