Abstract
A chronic wound is one that has a delay in healing. This can occur for multiple reasons, including: venous insufficiency, diabetes mellitus, infections and the presence of biofilms, among others. Biofilms are polymicrobial communities that adhere or fix to a surface, intervening negatively in the healing process. In this article, the pathogenesis of this process will be describen and reference will be made to studies that have demonstrated the above.
