This journal provides free and immediate access to its content under the principle of making publications freely available to the public, which seeks the exchange of artistic research at a global level. Being an open access journal implies that all content is freely accessible and at no cost to the user. Users can read, download, copy, distribute, print and search the articles in this journal without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author for educational and nonprofit purposes. All published articles are protected under a Creative Commons Atribución-NoComercial-SinDerivadas 4.0 (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) license.
Code of Ethics and Good Editorial Practices
At ESCENA. Revista de las artes, we ensure good editorial practices and ethical policies that aim to guarantee the quality of academic-scientific dissemination. In addition, through these practices, we generate an input for the resolution of possible conflicts between the people involved in the editorial process. These policies are based on the international standards established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The following are some important aspects that authors, readers and users of this journal should take into account:
Roles and obligations of the members involved in the editorial process
A. Editorial Board
These are the professional experts who collaborate in the organizational, political and academic functioning of the journal through the formation of the editorial body. The members are committed to accept, send for correction or reject in Editorial Board session the manuscripts received through the journal's open call for papers. They are also in charge of recommending some of the external reviewers for the approved manuscripts.
It is important to clarify that the members of the Editorial Board may postulate their articles and other reflections that respond to the editorial line of ESCENA. Revista de las artes as long as the anonymity of the author member is respected and he/she refrains from evaluating his/her own work in the evaluation corresponding to the Editorial Board. In order to ensure a healthy editorial ethics, each member of the Editorial Board may publish, with its due review process, with a temporal distance of at least three issues between one work and another. Finally, any member who knows, for an external reason, the authorship of the proposed work will abstain from voting in the evaluation.
B. Authors
They are those who participate in the journal through the contribution of their scientific-academic work. Authors are obliged to sign the authorization for publication, which stipulates that they are committed to offer an original manuscript, which is not in any other process of publication or dissemination at the time of submission.
In addition, he/she authorizes ESCENA. Revista de las artes to publish the manuscript free of charge. It is necessary that the authors provide truthful information by citing external sources, as well as administrative information. Also, the author commits, through the authorization to publish images and figures, to cede the patrimonial rights of these to the journal, for academic and nonprofit publication purposes. Finally, each author must commit to each step of the editorial process.
C. Evaluators
These are the experts who serve as referees for articles submitted for blind peer review. Internal reviewers (members of the Editorial Board), as well as external reviewers (members proposed by the Editorial Board and the editorial team), are obliged to respect the anonymity of manuscripts in order to safeguard blind peer review. In addition, they must maintain total confidentiality about the texts they evaluate.
D. Editors
They are the persons in charge of guiding the procedure of acceptance, revision and publication following the formal aspects required for academic-scientific dissemination. The editors are committed to ensure the quality of the manuscripts in ESCENA. Revista de las artes. In addition, they are responsible for establishing effective communication with each author of the journal, at each stage of the editorial process, that is, from its reception, approval by the Editorial Board, the reception, systematization and information of the opinions, as well as the publication in the journal.
Editorial Faults and Conflicts
a. Plagiarism
ESCENA. Revista de las artes ensures the quality and ethics of the texts published. Therefore, manuscripts that enter the editorial flow process are subjected to a rigorous review of compliance with the formal aspects required by the journal. All texts must be submitted without manipulation of data and properly cited according to the APA format (7th. edition in English or 4th. edition in Spanish). In this preliminary review process, the Turnitin tool is used to corroborate that the manuscript meets the criteria of originality and academic integrity.
In case of failure to do so, a correction will be requested to the author or an ad portas rejection will be made. In these situations, the editorial team will notify the author by e-mail about the situation, taking into account the possibility of plagiarism or involuntary self-plagiarism. If the author does not respond to the notice, the article will be automatically rejected by the Editorial Board.
b. Alteration of data in sources
It refers to the modification, intentional or unintentional, of data in the sources cited in the text. It is also considered an infraction the invention of false data, both with personal interests. In case of finding any evidence of data alteration, the editorial team will notify the author by e-mail about the situation, taking into account the possibility of unintentional alteration. If the author does not respond to the notice or provide an explanation, the article will be automatically rejected by the Editorial Board.
c. Duplicate publication
Refers to the publication of the same article in two media. If evidence is found that a manuscript is published in another journal, in its database or in any of the stages of the editorial flow, it will be automatically rejected. At the same time, if the manuscript is published in ESCENA. Revista de las artes and there is evidence that it is in another database of scientific dissemination, the article will be automatically withdrawn from the publication and a public notice will be placed on the main page of the journal informing about the reason for the withdrawal of the article. In both cases, the editorial team will notify the author by e-mail.
Digital Archives Preservation Policy
ESCENA. Revista de las artes stores its digital documents, both past and future issues, in a redundant storage system, which consists of a set of hard disks. This system is stored at the Art Research Institute of the University of Costa Rica. There is also a cloud (OneDrive, MEGA) in which the documents of published and unpublished issues are stored. The journal also uses the PKP Preservation Network.
