Resumen

Lo primero que hay que aclarar al hablar del uso del computador en la investigación histórica es que no constituye un método en sí sino una técnica. De la misma manera, es necesario decir que el computador no sustituye el trabajo del historiador, sólo lo facilita.

Lo importante no es tanto la máquina como las preguntas que se le hagan. El uso de computadores interesa desde el punto de vista que permite abordar nuevos problemas utilizando métodos más refinados, particularmente aquellos en los que la cantidad de información requerida
es de tal magnitud que su manejo en forma manual se vuelve imposible.
