Author Guidelines

Manuscript Submission Requirements

Papers submitted for evaluation must meet all the requirements on this list. Publication proposals that fail to comply with any of these provisions will be returned.

1. Submit the electronic version of the text, preferably in MS Word for Windows, via the submission page .
2. If your article introduces notes, insert them as part of the text, between parentheses, eg, (1), that is, without using the specific word processor commands . Place the respective text of the notes at the end of the document.

3 . The parts of the article must appear in the following order: name of the author, title of the work, abstract, keywords, text, notes, bibliographical references, biographical data and additional information (see points 10 to 12).

4. Submit only original and unpublished work. The Editorial Board will determine whether or not to accept translations of texts previously published in another language.
5. Papers written in Spanish, English or Portuguese will be accepted. In special cases, writings in other languages will be accepted.
6. Texts should not exceed 55,000 characters, counting spaces, and including notes and bibliographical references. Use your word processor's character counter to determine the extension.

7 . Do not use underlines. If you want to emphasize or write words in another language, use italics (italics). The bold type is reserved for headings and subheadings. If you are quoting verbatim, enclose them in double quotes if you write them within the text; do not use quotation marks if you place them in a separate paragraph.

8. The text must be preceded by a summary of no more than 100 words.

9 . Write down, after the summary of the text and before the beginning of it , no more than 5 keywords, so that the work is more easily catalogued.

10 . Write down, at the end of the document, your academic or institutional affiliation, your degree, and a very brief list of your most important or recent publications.

11 . Also include, after this short resume, your postal address and email.

12 . Please cite bibliographic references according to the provisions described below.

13. The reviews work with the blind peer model: the academic peers who evaluate the articles are anonymous to the authors; likewise, the authors are anonymous to the peers.
14. Include a second language version of the abstract and keywords, preferably English. Articles whose abstracts in English ( abstract ) are not correctly written will be rejected ad portas .

Bibliographic references

The model based on the Chicago 17th edition author-date modality will be used , that is, with citations in parentheses . This model is characterized by being shorter. Within the text, reference will be made to the work in parentheses, noting only the author's last name, the year of publication and the page. In the list of bibliographical references, you must write down the complete reference, in accordance with the following provisions.

Write down the name of the author and place the last names as they appear in the text (either one or two last names), then insert the year without enclosing it in parentheses. For example:

Murillo Zamora, Roberto. 1987. Shape and Difference . San José: Editorial of the University of Costa Rica.

Within the body of the article it will appear, each time this text is cited, as a parenthetical citation: (Murillo Zamora 1987, 34)

If you opt for the narrative quote, then do not repeat the data that is already in the text:

Professor Murillo Zamora thinks that this is a mistake (1987, 34).

For example, if you mention the year of publication, you should not repeat it either:

In 1987 Professor Murillo Zamora wrote emphatically that this was a mistake (p. 34).

When a parenthetical citation appears at the end of the paragraph, place the period after the citation:

Light is the thread that elevates man from the field of appearance to that of being (Murillo Zamora, 1987, 27).

If the same sentence were to be quoted, incomplete, within the text, the reference would look like this:

In his 1987 text, Roberto Murillo Zamora recalled how light has always been considered to elevate us "from the field of appearance to that of being" (27).

After the title of the book, you can place other relevant information, such as the data of the editor or translator. Remember not to put abbreviations, a correct reference would be:

Butler, Judith. 2010. Marcos de Guerra: The cried lives. Translated by Bernardo Moreno Carrillo. Barcelona: Paidos.

If, in this model, you must annotate references by the same author with the same date, distinguish them in this way:

Gadamer, Hans-Georg. 1998a. Art and truth in the word . Translated by Arturo Parada. Barcelona: Paidos.

_____. 1998b. The hermeneutic turn . Translated by José Francisco Zúñiga García & Faustino Oncina . Madrid: Chair.

If you decide to cite the compiler or editor instead of the author, this information, in the bibliographical references, must be abbreviated and without parentheses, as shown below:

Avanessian , Armen and Reis, Mauro, comps . 2017. Accelerationism : Strategies for a transition to post-capitalism . Buenos Aires: Black Box.

The titles of journal articles must be in quotation marks, and the name of the journal must be in italics; the other data is abbreviated as follows:

Brenes Vargas. Alonso. 2022. “Affective Subjectivity and Queer Childhood: An Analysis of the Film Wild Tigers I Have Known ”. Philosophy Magazine of the University of Costa Rica 39 , no. 161: 11-24.

Only the name of the publisher should be noted; so that instead of writing, for example, “Editorial Grijalbo” or “Editorial Gredos”, you should write only “Grijalbo” or “Gredos” (unless you include the word “editorial” in your name as such).

In the bibliography, the ordering will be done in alphabetical order of the last name of the authors. The references of the same author will be noted by year, first the oldest text and in this way successively; those publications of the same year are followed in alphabetical order according to the title of the works and those publications that are not yet published (ie, in press) are placed last.

When you enter citations within notes, remember that they should be the same as in the body of the text, for example:

1. José Carlos Mariátegui has argued that Peru, despite mining, maintains the character of an agricultural country (2007, 20).

Remember, that in Spanish it is not used to capitalize all the words of the titles; write, for example, Theory of Communicative Action , and not Theory of Communicative Action . In English and other languages, it must be capitalized.

If you make a proper translation of a foreign language quote in the text, then you must follow the proper guideline for paraphrasing: you must place the source, either through a narrative or parenthetical quote, and omit the quotation marks.
