Abstract

This paper attempts to approach the problem of civic education as an incentive to promote domain of the ruling elites on the people and citizens under the subtle forms of power manipulators speeches, or what is the same, speeches that intentionally exercise guidelines on how citizens must be integrated in the collective imagination of the State in the form of values such as loyalty or patriotism, or in the form of national identity.

Therefore, it is my intention to perform a philosophical analysis of the notions of citizenship and civic education in order to clarify the intentions covering such speeches and how in politics, they are inserted in the minds of citizens to join as values that can hardly get out of the context of common sense.

The paper is divided into sections that will see how discourses on citizenship are actually forms of State handling for citizens seeking to be formed properly in a society, sometimes for citizens not to get involved in political and economic changes, sometimes to serve as victims for the interests of a single class. It is manifest to left open a gap between the political interests of institutionalized pedagogy and social and philosophical investigations, such as critical pedagogy seeking to discover the power relations that exist in people education.
