Abstract

In this article several neurobiological arguments of the works of Antonio Damasio are presented. This in order to show that the emotions and phenomena that underlie them are essential for the maintenance of life and the subsequent maturation of the individual. The arguments supporting this thesis give us the possibility to better understand the thesis proposed by the philosopher, Enrique Dussel Ambrosini, which argues that, in its most basic form, the organization of the human brain has responded universally to the universal ethical material of production, reproduction and development of the life of the human subject. What is sought by exposing some of Damasio’s reasoning is to demonstrate that the content of the ethical principle is justified in what Damasio calls: “the fundamental feeling”. For him, the unavoidable link between emotions and feelings reveals the greatest achievement of humanity: “the fundamental feeling of life.”
