Abstract
The article presents the phenomenology of religion, considered as a scientific discipline. Its origin, its characteristics compared to other sciences, the epistemological foundations, the main plot lines and several of the contemporary currents are reviewed. Critics and various alternative proposals are also studied. The phenomenology of religion has had an important development in the last decades and constitutes one of the most relevant approaches for the study of the religious phenomenon.
