Author Guidelines
Guidelines for authors
InterSedes Journal receives articles in Spanish and English.
Due to the multidisciplinary nature of the Journal, it is recommended that the author indicate at least two people who can act as peer reviewers to contribute to the peer bank.
The following requirements are established according to the type of manuscript delivered to the InterSedes Journal. The Journal publishes scientific articles, technical notes, book reviews, bibliographic reviews and literary works (stories, poems, others).
The journal recommends the use of an automatic reference tool for the generation of the article's bibliographical references, some examples of this tool are Microsoft Office Word’s References tool and Mendely. Other automatic reference tools are available online.
- The works must be original, previously unpublished, and cannot have been sent to another journal for its publication. Each author must send, along with the proposal, the Authorship, Originality, and Copyright Transfer Agreement in which he/she guarantees that the collaboration is unpublished and that it has not been sent to another journal, in addition to the Copyright Transfer Agreement. [Download here]. In the case of articles by several authors, download here. You must attach the identification documents (identity card or passport).
- The maximum length of each article is 25 letter-size pages, including graphics, tables, notes, references, and annexes. Times New Roman must be used, font 11 and line spacing of 1.5. The margins should be 2.5 cm at the top and bottom, and 3 cm on the right and left margins.
- Captions, table titles, and graphics must not use bold or all-capital letters.
- Tables and graphics must be incorporated into the text in image format and indicate their source. The quality of the images must be at least 300 dpi, and they must be in jpg, png or gif format. In addition, they must send the source files of the tables and graphs.
- The use of “double tabs” between paragraphs must be avoided (do not leave a blank line between paragraphs).
- Complete the author and institution form which contains the following data: Name, Nationality, Profession, place of work, email and their ORCID identification [Download the form]. It must be clear what the contribution of each of the authors is (financing, research design, data collection, information analysis, manuscript writing, tutor).
- The article must include a title, abstract and keywords (at least 5 are recommended). These three items must be in Spanish and English. The translation must be prepared by an English specialist. Regarding the selection of keywords, it is recommended to use the UNESCO thesaurus: http://vocabularies.unesco.org/browser/thesaurus/es/.
- The summary should indicate what was investigated, what methodological procedures were used and what results were achieved. It should not exceed 250 words.
- The pages must be numbered.
- In the articles in which photographs and images of people appear, the authors must provide a letter of approval from the subject for the use of their image. If photographs of children are used, they must provide permission from their parents or legal guardians.
- Citations and bibliographic references must use the APA 2019 style. 7th edition.
- The bibliographic references are composed only of the books and documents used in the content of the article.
- The bibliographic references are arranged in alphabetical order. They are not numbered or capitalized.
- The author(s) must respect the use of citation. If plagiarism is detected, the article will be immediately withdrawn from the journal.
- If citations derived from web sources are used, the reference must be active. This implies that the link must be current or "active". If the link inserted in the text or in the bibliographic references is “broken”, the reference will be eliminated by the editor of the journal.
- InterSedes magazine only publishes scientific articles, technical notes, bibliographic reviews and literary works (see below for types of manuscripts). No presentations, research reports, abstracts, or correspondence are published.
- Must use inclusive language.
- Errata and retractions: the publication of errata is allowed and the authors are responsible for the retraction of articles.
Types of manuscripts
In addition to the standards indicated above, the following standards must be applied for collaborations depending on the type of manuscript:
Scientific articles:
- They are reviewed by external peers.
- These manuscripts have several characteristics: they are the product of research projects or academic practice, they provide novel knowledge in the field of study, they can present more than one author, they are accompanied by bibliography or references, and depending on the discipline, they present methodological requirements that are visible. The structure generally used contains five important sections: introduction, materials and methods, results-discussion, conclusions and references.
- In addition to the rules indicated above, scientific articles must have an extension of no less than 15 pages and no more than 25. They are written with line spacing of 1.5 and there should be no additional spaces between paragraphs.
- The article must present an abstract in Spanish (or in the language in which the manuscript is written) and in English. The abstract must indicate the purposes of the collaboration, methodology, its results, and main conclusions.
- The article must present at least five keywords in Spanish and English. The keywords come in the respective language, following the abstract.
- Indented paragraphs and left alignment, except for graphs, tables, and figures, as well as textual citations.
- For each title or subtitle within the article, you must leave an additional space.
- Citations and references made to other authors or publications are governed by the style criteria defined by the American Psychological Association (APA). For this purpose, the latest edition of the Guide for Writing in APA Style can be consulted.
Bibliographic reviews:
- They are reviewed by external peers.
- These are articles that review all the existing works on a specific topic, they work as an exploration to study the progress that has been made around a topic, and to identify gaps that can be further investigated, or to point out new lines of research.
- The information must be treated in the form of a dissertation, analytical or descriptive analysis, or comparison.
- They require a sufficient knowledge of a certain topic or field of study.
- The text will be presented freely and should not exceed 15 pages.
- It must be present abstract and keywords.
Technical notes
- They are reviewed by external peers.
- They are short texts no longer than 15 pages.
- The technical notes include experimental techniques, equipment, natural phenomena, new species, methodological proposals, standard issues, proposals for solving operational problems.
- Advance information on results obtained or observations made.
- You must present an abstract and keywords.
Reviews:
They are not reviewed by external peers.
There can be three types of reviews: a) descriptive, which deal with commenting on the contents and characteristics that a book presents for the interest of any reader; b) analytics, which include the study of the contents of a book or publication to refer to its scope within a specific field of study; c) criticisms, which present an open confrontation with the contents of the book reviewed, but highlighting their achievements, discussing their theses and, eventually, proposing alternative theses. Reviews contribute to open disclosure and discussion, so they are not associated with destructive criticism of any book or work.
The reviews must be 15 pages or less, written in 1.5 line spacing and in Times New Roman size 11. The file must contain the information of the book reviewed –including publisher and number of pages–, name of the author of the review and as a footnote, institutional affiliation, academic credentials and email. The reviews do not have to include a summary or keywords.
As can be seen in the section policies, the reviews are indexed but not subjected to peer evaluation. Like the other manuscripts, they will be published as a section of the journal.
Reviews of various publications and in the official languages of the Journal can be presented.
Literary works
Such as stories, poems are not reviewed by external peers.
Citations, references, graphs and tables:
The InterSedes Journal follows the provisions of APA 7 in its latest version of 2019. For this reason, people interested in sending their manuscripts to the Journal should consult this style of citations and references.
The foregoing applies to all types of citation and reference and extends to graphics, tables and photographs or drawings contained in the manuscripts.
Likewise, the instructions for authors can be consulted in the SciElo and REDALyC repositories.
