Abstract
Scanning electron microscopy shows marked differences in epidermal cells and stomata of Marsilea, Azolla and Salvinia; the stomata are paracytic in the first and diacytic in the other two, supporting their segregation at the ordinal level. Studies of the sporocarp of Marsilea add interest to the gradal level of the genus, while contributing little to the cladal problem.References
