Resumen
We discuss the environmental conditions that determine the distribution of the especies of genus Nectandra (Lauraceae) in Costa Rica. It was found that 34 species of the genus occur mostly in mountain sites from 500 to 2000 m, in a wide range of soil types. These tree species prefer a climate with an anual average temperature betwen 17-25 C°, and rainfall of 2500 mm with moderate cloudness.
