Suplementos para perros con registro activo en Costa Rica

Resumen

El crecimiento de la población de perros con propietario ha impulsado el desarrollo de productos destinados a complementar la alimentación de estos animales, incluidos suplementos dietéticos y bocadillos o premios. El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar la composición nutricional, los ingredientes y los aditivos utilizados en productos para perros registrados en la categoría de suplementos de la Dirección de Alimentos para Animales del Servicio Nacional de Salud Animal del Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería de Costa Rica (DAA-SENASA-MAG), correspondientes a bocadillos o premios entre junio de 2023 y diciembre de 2024. Para ello, se construyó una base de datos a partir de los productos presentes en la plataforma virtual DAASIRE de la DAA-SENASA-MAG, registrados en la categoría de suplemento, con un total de 210 productos. Del total de productos evaluados, el 53,3% fue elaborado en Costa Rica y el 46,7% fue importado. El trigo, el maíz, la soya, la carne de pollo y la carne de res estuvieron entre los ingredientes utilizados con mayor frecuencia. Los antioxidantes sintéticos butilhidroxitolueno (BHT) y butilhidroxianisol (BHA) fueron declarados en el 11,0 y 14,3% de los productos, respectivamente. El contenido promedio de humedad, proteína cruda, extracto etéreo, fibra cruda, energía metabolizable y carbohidratos fue de 19,7%, 13,8%, 6,1%, 3,0%, 2944 kcal/kg y 52,4%, respectivamente. Los suplementos con registro activo en Costa Rica presentaron características nutricionales e ingredientes diversos. Su inclusión en la alimentación de los perros debe considerar la cantidad ofrecida y su frecuencia de consumo, debido a que un uso inadecuado podría contribuir a desequilibrios en la dieta.
