Melhorando o conhecimento sobre saúde menstrual no esporte

A saúde menstrual representa um estado de completo bem-estar físico, mental e social das mulheres em relação ao seu ciclo menstrual. Da perspectiva do conhecimento em saúde, aquisição de conhecimento e experiência depende do grau em que um indivíduo consegue encontrar, acessar, entender, analisar criticamente e aplicar informações de saúde. Portanto, o conhecimento sobre saúde menstrual pode ser usado para descrever o estado de aquisição e aplicação de conhecimento específico sobre questões relacionadas à saúde menstrual. A conscientização sobre a saúde menstrual é baixa entre as atletas, seus treinadores e profissionais, e há poucas estratégias de educação ou implementação baseadas em evidências para melhorar a conscientização sobre a saúde menstrual nos esportes. Além disso, atletas femininas raramente conversam com seus treinadores sobre seus ciclos menstruais ou uso de contraceptivos hormonais, apesar de sentirem sintomas ou desconfortos menstruais, ou perceberem que seus ciclos menstruais ou uso de contraceptivos hormonais afetam seu desempenho. Os obstáculos à comunicação sobre tópicos relacionados ao ciclo menstrual ou contraceptivos hormonais incluem uma percepção de falta de conhecimento entre atletas, treinadores e profissionais, preocupações sobre como as conversas sobre esses tópicos afetarão os relacionamentos interpessoais e uma falta de fóruns formais e informais para diálogo. Embora as evidências sobre como a fase do ciclo menstrual e o uso de contraceptivos hormonais afetam o treinamento e o desempenho sejam atualmente limitadas, e os estudos existentes muitas vezes carecem de rigor metodológico, medidas ainda podem ser tomadas para impactar o apoio às atletas femininas. Esta análise fundamental destaca o estado atual do conhecimento sobre saúde menstrual entre atletas, treinadores e profissionais, e oferece recomendações para melhorar a conscientização sobre saúde menstrual nos esportes.
